GST invoice processing in New Zealand
GST is the number most worth double-checking on a supplier invoice. InvoiceHaven extracts it, checks the arithmetic, and tells you plainly when something does not line up.
How the GST check works
- The GST amount, subtotal and total are extracted as numbers from the invoice.
- Those three values are recalculated against each other.
- Invoices that reconcile are marked as verified; ones that do not are marked for review.
- Invoices with no GST amount are reported as not applicable rather than passing silently.
Why arithmetic checking matters
Extraction reads characters, and characters can be misread on a creased or faint invoice. A totals check is the cheapest way to catch a wrong digit before it reaches your spreadsheet. Possible duplicate invoices are flagged for the same reason.
A note on scope
InvoiceHaven checks the maths on the document in front of it. It does not determine GST treatment, prepare returns, or give tax advice — your accountant or bookkeeper owns those decisions.
Frequently asked questions
Does InvoiceHaven check GST on invoices?
Yes. InvoiceHaven performs mathematical checks on the GST amount against the subtotal and total, and flags invoices that do not reconcile.
What happens when an invoice has no GST?
When an invoice carries no GST amount, the GST check is reported as not applicable rather than as a pass.
